The Site of the Old Alexian Brothers Hospital

The Site of the Old Alexian Brothers Hospital

We finished the tour by going to the site of the now-gone Alexian Brothers Hospital where the actual exorcism was completed. The whole exorcism took a total of four months!! The old hospital is now gone, but there’s a new one in its place. We stood in the location of the wing of the old hospital where the event occurred. People say that strange things happen in this parking lot, but we didn’t experience anything that night.

I had a great time on the tour and I’m pretty sure everyone else did too. If you’re looking for something new and unique to do next Halloween, you might try taking this tour:-)

The Room the Boy Stayed In

The Room the Boy Stayed In

I know this photo doesn’t look like much here, but it took some real work to get the window to even show up! We all tried taking a lot of shots of this window, but they all came out just plain black. I used Photoshop to pull the image out of the shadows, but it’s not very clear. There are several other shots, some better than others, you can go look at by clicking on the photo.

This is the picture of the window of the room the boy stayed in at DuBourg Hall. Some people say that there’s a strange glow that comes from the window. (We didn’t see it that night, but who knows…?) The room is on the fourth floor of the building and is sealed off from the rest of the floor. We were told that the room is impossible to heat, the paint is peeling off the ceiling (we could see that from the sidewalk below), and creepy things are supposed to happen around this room.

DuBourg Hall, Another Place the Boy Stayed

DuBourg Hall

I shot this on the campus to show that this was the dormitory in which the boy stayed part of the time he was in St. Louis.

The Church

The Church

During the performance of the exorcism, many priests prayed in this church to help in the process. At the moment that the boy saw a vision of St Michael with a flaming sword in his hand, the priests in this church said they say the same vision. (Even though at that moment, the exorcism was taking place miles away at a hospital.)

I took a bunch of pictures of this church because it was just so pretty, all lit up at night.

Holly in Front of the Rectory

Holly in Front of the Rectory

The actual incident that inspired the book was that involving a 14-year-old boy. We were told his real name, but I won’t repeat it here because he’s still alive and I respect his privacy. He’s been through enough!

First the tour went to the North St. Louis County suburb of Bel-Nor and showed us a two-story brick home on a nice middle class street near St. Louis University. This was the house of the boy’s aunt and the first place he stayed after coming to St. Louis for the Exorcism.

On Halloween evening, the house was lit up and had lighted jack-o-lanterns on the front porch. If one didn’t know any better, it would seem like any other house. I tried to get photos of it, but none of them turned out. (Sorry.)

From there, we went to the campus of St. Louis University, where the priests who performed the exorcism lived and helped perform the exorcism.

This is one of our tour leaders, Holly, standing on the steps of the rectory.

The Exorcist Tour on Halloween

The Exorcist Tour on Halloween

On Halloween evening, my friend, Ken and I took the first ever Exorcist Tour in St. Louis. The group that gives the tour also gives a number of different ghost tours and cemetery tours. This year on Halloween, they decided to add an Exorcist Tour on Halloween.

Here’s the group that went on the Tour: (left to right) Ken, our host Holly, Danielle, Patrick, our other host Jill and Madeline.

We started off in a van from outside the Arch parking lot. We sipped wine, ate cheese and crackers and were told the story of the incident that inspired Peter Blatty’s book The Exorcist and the movie to follow. Jill even read from the diary of the head priest that performed the exorcism.

We all had a blast!!  :-)

(You can click on the photo to go see all the pictures I took over the course of the evening.)
