During our Rio Certification class, we had twelve eager students and Cece Wire (at the front of the room, standing). This is a shot of the table I was using. Here, Connie, Carolyn and Susan are hard at work.

PMC Certification class – day 3

Sadly, the three day PMC class with Cece Wire has drawn to an end. It was the most fun-filled, action-packed three days I’ve spent in a long time. I made some great new friends who share my passion for jewelry making and learned a ton of new things. And the great news is that everyone passed and is now certified!! We can all twelve go forth and teach PMC to others.

Right now, I’m wearing two rings I made this weekend and I have all kinds of goodies to take home with me too. I’ll post the photos after I get home again. We are trying to coax Cece into returning to teach us other things in the future, so I’ll keep you posted on that.

As for this weekend, we learned to do cool connections, soldering, torch firing, kiln firing, Aura 22k gold overlay, two-part ring making, all kinds of polishing and finishing techniques, mold carving, woven PMC to make textured pieces, many decorating techniques, hollow bead making and a whole barrel full of other tips and tricks. I can’t wait to get back in my own studio again to practice my new skills.

But for now, we just got back from taking a 2-year-old and a three-month-old out to dinner and now they are in bed. I’m exhausted and so is everyone else. What a great weekend!!

Tomorrow, Gracie and I will make chocolate chip cookies together, so I need to rest up! I’ll post more tomorrow.

Stay cool!

PMC Certification class – day 2

Well, the problem here is that all the other women in my class are so fun and so cool that we all want to adopt each other! We’ve exchanged email addresses and phone numbers so we can stay in touch. Cece brought some of her books to sign and to sell, but since I already have one and forgot to bring it with me, I guess I’ll have to pass. I could buy another copy, but that would be ridiculous.

Several of my class mates have asked me to do web sites for them on trade. One person, Ann, teaches a great technique called Keum-boo and will teach me in exchange for her web site. Keum-boo is a Korean technique for adding gold foil to silver jewery pieces. She brought some pieces to show that are just magnificent! I can’t wait!

We are trying to convince Cece to come back to teach us enamel for our silver pieces. I hope if she does that I can make it here for the class!!

I have kept thinking for the past two days that I wish these women lived in St. Louis because they are all so fun and we have really enjoyed sharing our passion for PMC with each other. I just can’t move to this area right now because of the day job…that nasty detail of having to make a living…

Today we finished and fired our first six pieces and only have one more to make tomorrow. Most of the work tomorrow will be spent on finishing and polishing techniques. All of the people in the class wish the class wasn’t over tomorrow. They are all such neat people, I hope we all really do decide to keep in touch!

I have faithfully been taking photos of the projects and of the class and will post them when I get home. Cece’s class is so terrific, we have gained a ton of great tips and tricks that we couldn’t have gotten without her! She’s a terrific teacher!

Now it’s on to my duties as an Oma. I need some granddaughter time, for sure!

More tomorrow….

PMC Certification class – day 1

Well, after 8 hours of work on five different projects in various stages of completion, I am tired, happy and ready for tomorrow’s class.

Anyone out there who is thinking of taking a PMC certification class, our instructor, Cece Wire is outstanding. I got enough new tips and tricks today to make it more than worth the entire tuition!

Tomorrow I’m going to take a bunch of pictures of the class, the projects and of Cece. Stay tuned! I’ll write more when I get the time.

Right now, I have a two-year-old granddaughter who is wanting to have some dinner, so I have to go. More tomorrow.

Ahhh! Creative Bliss!

This past weekend was spent mainly creating wonderful things in my studio. I have about two dozen projects in various stages of completion and I worked on several of these. Some of the items under construction are a variety of PMC pieces (more about this later), several wire wrapped bracelets, several beaded charm bracelets, a crochet and bead bracelet cuff, several dichroic glass cabochons (I haven’t fired up the old kiln in a few weeks because I don’t want to add to the heat of the summer…but I’m getting impatient to fire some things so I may have to just bite the bullet and do it…) All this and I’m trying to finish an afghan for my daughter’s chair before I go there to visit in a week. So much fun stuff to do…so little time! If only I didn’t need to depend on my day job to pay the bills…..

I still need to do a photo shoot of the two dozen or so pieces of jewelry that I have finished and need to put on my web site for sale. Perhaps that’s this evening’s project. If so, you’ll see more about this tomorrow.

But the really big thing that’s on my mind (besides getting to spoil my two granddaughters for a few days) is the PMC Certification class I’m enrolled in on August 4-6 in Arlington, TX. It’s just a couple of miles from my daughter’s home and I can go to the class in the daytime, and hang out with her family in the evenings. Talk about bliss: time with my kids and grandkids is the most wonderful way to spend time. I am truly excited!

Now, you may be asking yourself, “What’s PMC, Lynn?” Well, I’ll attempt to tell you. Then in a day or so, I’ll post some photos of finished pieces. Precious Metal Clay (PMC) is finely powdered pure silver in an organic base that makes it moldable like clay. The PMC is formed into the desired shape, dried, then fired in a kiln. The organic base burns away, leaving almost completely pure silver in the created shape. (The finished product is actually 99.9% pure silver and can be called “fine silver”.) I managed to take several local classes on the basics and have even sold some pieces of PMC jewelry that I have made, but in order to get better, I must take the certification courses. Besides, being certified will qualify me for special discounts on the clay itself and I’ll also be able to teach classes myself, if I decide to. The class I’m taking in August is only the first of several certifications, but one must start somewhere, right?

Anyway, I need to end this post and go take photos for my site. I’ll post more tomorrow.
I hope you have a terrific evening!
